THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL FLAG

ON THIS SITE, 535 MORRISON HILL, THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL FLAG WAS SEWN BY MRS. MARCELA MARINO AGONCILLO, WIFE OF THE FIRST FILIPINO DIPLOMAT, FELIPE AGONCILLO, WITH THE HELP OF HER DAUGHTER LORENZA AND MRS. DELFINA HERBOSA NATIVIDAD, NIECE OF DR. JOSE RIZAL. THE FLAG’S DESIGN WAS CONCEIVED BY GEN. EMILIO AGUINALDO, PRESIDENT OF THE REVOLUTIONARY GOVERNMENT OF THE PHILIPPINES AND WAS MADE WITHIN FIVE DAYS BEFORE HE BOARDED THE AMERICAN DISPATCH BOAT, MCCULLOCH ON MAY 17, 1898 ENROUTE TO THE PHILIPPINES. FIRST HOISTED IN THE BATTLE OF ALAPAN ON MAY 28, 1898 AND UNFURLED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN KAWIT, CAVITE DURING THE PROCLAMATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE ON JUNE 12, 1898.

THIS HISTORICAL MARKER IS INSTALLED BY THE GRATEFUL FILIPINO NATION ON THE OCCASSION OF THE CENTENARIES OF THE SEWING OF THE PHILIPPINE FLAG AND THE DECLARATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE ON JUNE 12, 1898.

National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures

The National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures is the NHCP’s official record historic sites and structures throughout the Philippines. Under Republic Act No. 10086, the Registry covers historic sites and structures documented by the NHCP, while Section 20 mandates the Historic Sites and Structures Documentation Center (HSSDC) to undertake their survey, identification, and documentation, and to maintain the National Registry.

The Registry serves as a public reference for information on places recognized for their significance to Philippine history and heritage.
