PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR’S RESIDENCE IN THE UNITED STATES

BUILT BY WILLIAM P. LIPSCOMB AS RESIDENCE OF GENERAL CHARLES AND EMMA FITZHUGH FOLLOWING THE DESIGN OF WOOD, DONN & DEMING FIRM, 1904. SERVED AS TEMPORARY RESIDENCE OF CZECHOSLOVAKIAN LEGATION, 1928-1929. PURCHASED BY REPRESENTATIVE FREDERICK AND ALMA BRITTEN, 1941; BECAME A PROPERTY OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES DURING THE TIME OF AMBASSADOR JOAQUIN M. ELIZALDE AND DESIGNATED AS THE OFFICIAL AMBASSADOR’S RESIDENCE, 1949. RENOVATED BY AMBASSADOR CARLOS P. ROMULO FOLLOWING THE DESIGN OF ARCHITECT VICTOR TEOTICO AND ADDED A FILIPINIANA ROOM, 1953. IN THIS ROOM, PRESIDENT CARLOS P. GARCIA OF THE PHILIPPINES AND PRESIDENT DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER OF THE UNITED STATES SIGNED A COMMUNIQUÉ AFFIRMING THE TWO COUNTRIES’ BILATERAL RELATIONS, JUNE 1958.

National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures

The National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures is the NHCP’s official record historic sites and structures throughout the Philippines. Under Republic Act No. 10086, the Registry covers historic sites and structures documented by the NHCP, while Section 20 mandates the Historic Sites and Structures Documentation Center (HSSDC) to undertake their survey, identification, and documentation, and to maintain the National Registry.

The Registry serves as a public reference for information on places recognized for their significance to Philippine history and heritage.
