Torrijos, Marinduque
Torrijos is a coastal municipality situated on the southeastern coast of Marinduque island, bounded by the Tayabas Strait and overlooked by the dormant volcano Mount Malindig. Originally carved out of its mother municipality of Santa Cruz, its was officially established as an independent pueblo under Spanish rule on 27 October 1870 but only became effective on 25 May 1880. Historically, the town is renowned as the site of the Battle of Pulang Lupa (September 13, 1900), where Filipino revolutionary forces under Colonel Maximo Abad achieved a major victory over American troops during the Philippine–American War.
