Patrocinio Gamboa’s Heroism

The painting by Roderick Macutay illustrates a popularly held story of how Gamboa agreed to take the Philippine Flag from Jaro to Santa Barbara, Iloilo. To hide it from Spanish guards, it is said that she wrapped the flag around her waits, covering it with her garments. This flag was then unfurled during the inauguration of the Estado Federal de Bisayas in November 1898.
