CITY OF OLONGAPO

SUBIC BAY, ZAMBALES BECAME A U.S. NAVAL STATION, 1901. DESIGNATED AS A MILITARY RESERVATION WAS THE ADJACENT LAND FROM WHERE A PORTION OF THE AREA GREW THE COMMUNITY OF OLONGAPO AND ADMINISTERED BY THE U.S. NAVY OFFICIALS. ADMINISTRATION OF OLONGAPO WAS TURNED OVER TO THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, DECEMBER 7, 1959. BY VIRTUE OF EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 366, OLONGAPO BECAME A MUNICIPALITY AND ITS LOCAL OFFICIALS APPOINTED.

THE DESIRE AND ASPIRATIONS OF THE CITIZENS OF OLONGAPO LED BY MAYOR JAMES L. GORDON BECAME A FULFILLMENT WHEN CONGRESSMAN RAMON MAGSASAYSAY, JR. SPONSORED H.B. NO. 983 CONVERTING THE MUNICIPALITY OF OLONGAPO INTO A CITY. APPROVED BY PRESIDENT FERDINAND E. MARCOS, JUNE 1, 1966 AS REPUBLIC ACT NO. 4645, AND THE INCUMBENT ELECTIVE OFFICIALS AS THE FIRST CITY OFFICIALS

National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures

The National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures is the NHCP’s official record historic sites and structures throughout the Philippines. Under Republic Act No. 10086, the Registry covers historic sites and structures documented by the NHCP, while Section 20 mandates the Historic Sites and Structures Documentation Center (HSSDC) to undertake their survey, identification, and documentation, and to maintain the National Registry.

The Registry serves as a public reference for information on places recognized for their significance to Philippine history and heritage.
